Hard to believe that after a cancellation the previous week due to snow, the sun shone and a good team turnout of 16 paddlers arrived at the Gailey marina for this year’s Hasler race.
Conditions were pretty good and everyone looked forward to some good, if not a little washy, racing.
The 3 lightnings all turned in excellent races with Lincoln taking 1st place with Louis in the U10, Conor in the U12 Boys and Sophia in the U12 Girls.
There was a mixed bag of results in the divisions. In Divs 4 & 5 Andy had technical difficulties and Paul chose to take a detour (down a dead-end). Theo decided that swimming maybe was a better option on the tight canals taking more than one dip.
Oliver had his usual strong race ahead of Abbie, and Alexander was our sole representative in Div 8.
In 9 there was a hard-fought battle between two of our newer, promising junior girls with Izzy taking the spoils ahead of Millie.
Ray and Kev had a strong race in their K2 finishing in 1st place and Lewis A partnered Molly from Gailey to gain a confidence boosting win ahead of our other Lincoln crew, ‘The Simpkins’ in 3rd.
With 3 crew boats and some enthusiastic youngsters, as a team, Lincoln came in 2nd place overall gaining 9 Hasler points and maintaining our 1 point advantage at the head of the Midlands regional standings.
